How do I fix a failed direct debit?

From time to time, a direct debit payment may fail. Common reasons for this include incorrect or invalid bank details, insufficient funds in the nominated bank account, or restrictions on direct debit payments from your bank account. To rectify this, we ask that you update your bank details.

To retry your direct debit payment, log in to your Birchal account and navigate to the 'Pending Applications' tab on your 'My Portfolio' page. Select the name of the company for which the payment failed, choose the 'Make/Update Payment' option, and select 'Direct Debit' as your payment method. Follow the prompts and re-enter your bank details accurately to ensure the payment is processed successfully.

Simply overwrite your bank details and click 'Confirm Payment Transfer.'

Alternative Payment Methods

If retrying the direct debit payment is not an option or if it fails again, you can use one of the following alternative payment methods:

1. Australian Bank Transfer

To pay via Australian Bank Transfer:

  1. Set your preferred payment method to 'Australian Bank Transfer.'

  2. Go to the 'Pending Applications' tab on your 'My Portfolio' page.

  3. Select the company’s name and choose 'Update Payment Method.'

  4. Select 'Australian Bank Transfer' and follow the prompts.

  5. You will be provided with a reference number. Use this reference number when completing the transfer to ensure your payment is processed correctly.

2. PayID

To pay via PayID:

  1. Use the PayID email address provided in the payment instructions.

  2. Follow your bank’s process for making a PayID payment.

3. Bank Transfer

To pay via bank transfer:

  1. Use the BSB and account number provided in the payment instructions.

  2. Ensure you include any required reference numbers to link the payment to your account.

These alternative methods provide flexibility and ensure you can complete your payment even if direct debit is not successful.
